After my last post talking about the dont’s of SEO, I got a few emails asking me the best way of going about getting good backlinks. The truth is there’s no really easy way of doing this, and that’s how it should be. If higher quality backlinks were easy to get then they would be easily exploitable by people who want to take advantage of SEO rules.
There are, however, things you can do to increase your chances of getting good backlinks to your website.
1. Write Interesting Content – Providing readers, and other websites with similar interests as yours with good, interesting content will increase your chances of being linked to. Say, for example, I find a good article about web hosting, I’m more inclined to share that with my readers and link back to their webpage with credit. That gives the other website a good backlink because it is coming from another website about web hosting.
2. Offer bloggers free samples – Make no mistake, bloggers have a larger influence than ever before. Find highly regarded bloggers in your niche market and reach out to them. Offer them a free sample of your product or service and (assuming your product is any good) ask them to write up a post for you and link to your site. This is a great way of getting publicity, as well.
3. Offer to guest post – Plenty of websites look for guest posts from experts. This is a great way to not only get a good backlink, but also show prospective customers the expertise you have in your given field. If you write good posts then you will almost certainly see more traffic to your page.
4. Become active on forums and blogs – Use comment sections on blogs and forums to become more recognized and seen as an authority in your field. This will get you a better chance at getting backlinks from others on the various blogs/forums.
Like I said in my previous post, SEO is not easy, and it is a never ending task. These things aren’t a one time and you’re done type deal and you have to constantly be working to try and get more backlinks to increase your rankings. It may not happen quickly, but doing it right could pay off big time in the long run.
