All too often, when I am chatting with clients, they have and idea of what they want with their website, but they have no clue how they plan on getting there. When creating your website you need to set yourself goals, both for short term and long term success. These goals will help give you a road map to creating your website, and they will help keep you on track to getting you to where you want to be.

Setting small goals or milestones for your website will also give you a gauge for how productive you are being, and also will give you the satisfaction of knowing you are getting somewhere. Without these goals chances are you will find yourself lost and without direction on where to go next.

One of the first things I do with a client is sit down with them and create an outline of their whole website, as well as dates on which certain tasks will be completed. This gives them, and me, an idea of when things will be done and minimizes downtime.

Goals and milestones will, in the end, help you get to where you want to be. They will keep you on task and guide you in the right direction. Do this, and you won’t feel like you are sinking in a never ending pit of website creation.
