Social media is often a hard thing to understand. This lack of understanding could make you not have any desire to spend time on making it work. This is a big mistake. Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook have huge potential for generating extra revenue for your website. It’s just a matter of figuring out how to get that revenue. There are a few easy things you can do to increase your chances at turning followers into customers.
1. Don’t be too formal
People on social media want to feel like they’re talking to other people, not robots. While you my be representing your brand, you also want to make people feel comfortable with talking to you. Take a more informal approach to social media. Act like you’re talking to friends. It will induce more conversation and make you (and your company) seem more personable.
2. Don’t peddle products all the time
Yes, you’re on social media to try and sell your business. This doesn’t mean all you should be doing with your social media accounts is sending links to products or services. This is ok to do some of the time, especially if you’re launching something new. By and large, people don’t want to see nothing but advertising from your social media accounts. They want to talk to you.
3. Be available!
I can’t stress this enough. Your social media accounts are only valuable to you if you’re actually using them! So many times I see business accounts that have 1 post a month. There is no value in that. Social media is all about interaction, and in order to interact with your customers you have to be available to them.
4. Don’t be afraid to stray
Just because you are on social media for your business doesn’t mean you can’t discuss trending topics. Find a way to link these topics to what you offer and you will get a much better chance of sparking a conversation and getting more followers.
You need to use social media is a means of interacting with your customers and potential customers on a daily basis. It’s a great way to have a more informal, personal means of talking with them. With any luck, you’ll get something to go viral and then the sky is the limit.
